Contracts, holds, and booking risk

The business side of the date starts before load-in—status, terms, and proof of what was agreed.

GigLog provides recordkeeping and tax estimates. It is not a CPA, attorney, or tax advisor. Tax rules change—confirm with a qualified professional and official government sites linked on these pages.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a written contract for every gig?

Verbal holds fail under stress. At minimum capture: date and times, fee, deposit, cancellation terms, who provides sound, load-in/call times, and when you get paid. Agency or venue agreements may already exist—read them before you toast.

How GigLog helps

Available now — Hold / confirmed / cancelled status and notes. Planned — Attach the signed PDF to the gig.

What is a hold vs a confirmation?

A hold is tentative (“penciled”). Confirmed means both sides locked the date (ideally with deposit or written acceptance). Clear release rules for holds prevent double-booking politics.

How GigLog helps

Available now — Status on every date plus calendar views.

How do I avoid double-booking?

One source of truth for availability—including personal unavailable blocks and rehearsals. If you also use Apple or Google Calendar, sync carefully so Ghost Dates don’t linger.

How GigLog helps

Available now — Smart calendar, recurring gigs, unavailable dates, and calendar feed options.

Should I track rehearsals as business activity?

Yes for schedule accuracy. Some rehearsals are paid; unpaid ones still cost drive time and opportunity. Include them when you judge whether a “good fee” was actually good.

How GigLog helps

Available now — Rehearsals beside performances.

How do bandmates stay aligned on dates and details?

Shared call times, venues, and pay expectations prevent the classic text-thread failure. Document who is owed what when you’re the leader.

How GigLog helps

Coming later — Band and gig sharing/invites so details aren’t trapped in group chats. Sidemen can still use GigLog for their own books today.

What records prove a booking if payment is disputed?

Written confirmation, invoice, deposit trail, messages, and a contemporaneous gig record (date, venue, agreed fee). Memory loses to paperwork.

How GigLog helps

Available now — Gig history as your timeline. Planned — Stronger deposit and contract attachment trails.
